The Technical Service Engineering group is responsible for developing applications knowledge with respect to Henkel Adhesive Electronics markets and new products that ensures the products, as manufactured, can be successfully employed by Henkel Adhesive Electronics customers in a manner that brings value to our customers which is clear and identifiable.

The role of the Technical Service Engineer is to support Product Development (PD) in the development and evaluation of newly developed products by developing and deploying modelling methods in the area of polymers, including different types of adhesives. The Technical Service Engineer will develop, implement and validate modelling strategies to numerically predict material behavior and application performance. From these insights conclusions are drawn for optimal applications, designs and solutions and for further material development.

What we offer

  • Analyse complex applications and processes and develop, implement, validate and deploy modelling strategies to numerically predict material behaviour and application performance
  • Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations, including the optimization of joint designs
  • Develop modelling strategies for different types of materials
  • Design and develop experimental tests for material characterization and FEA validation
  • Give in-depth key customer support to allow selection products, solve technical problems, improve process efficiency and overall quality
  • Assist PD by developing modelling procedures for the characterization of new products, as to ensure adequate (reproducible, repeatable, robust) and relevant (for customers’ use) product design recommendations
  • Support resolution of quality problems
  • Ensure to be up to date with the newest trends in modelling
  • Communicate and work globally with other parts of Henkel to ensure that latest and best information is available in support of customers
  • Share best practices / cross-fertilise important modelling experience using given tools and platforms within the department and within the global technical organization
  • Participate in specific projects including new product development for expertise
  • Support key electronics events (exhibitions, conferences, and seminars) by preparation and participation, write and present technical papers for publications and conferences
  • Actively contribute to a safe working environment

Who we are looking for

  • Technical background (Mechanical Engineering / Material Science Engineering / Civil Engineering or equivalent field): Master/PhD in solid mechanics, numerical methods and experimental characterization methods
  • Experience in numerical methods in structural mechanics (e.g. continuum and fracture mechanics)
  • Experience in concepts and tools used in industrial engineering environments for FEA analysis and the corresponding pre- and post-processing packages
  • Experience in the characterization and modelling of polymeric materials, in particular adhesives
  • Experience in mechanical test procedures and the design and conduction of tests for material characterization and model validation
  • Keep up to date on the latest developments in the relevant industry files
  • Good technical understanding of the relevant technologies, as well as the ability to understand complex technical problems
  • Knowledge of application techniques such as printing, dosing, jetting, soldering or other material application techniques is beneficial
  • Excellent communication and team skills to work in an international environment
  • Broad knowledge of customer processes, products and applications beyond the use of our (Henkel) products
  • Implicit understanding of the customer culture and anticipating its needs
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize project plans to deliver results, as well as manage complex projects or concurrent projects
  • Proven problem-solving ability (in the technical environment)
  • Expertise in specialization, journal publications, customer success and expertise recognized by industry peers
  • Fluent English (spoken and written)
  • Willingness to travel (25 % of time) throughout Europe and occasionally globally to customer and other facilities
